Forestry

Bachelor studies (first level)
Full-time course: 3.5 years (7 semesters)
Part-time course: 3.5 years (7 semesters)
The course prepares its students for work in forest planning, analysis, forecasting and management and in branches related to nature conservation and environmental protection. The basic aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge based on the latest achievements in forestry and natural sciences, the ability to creatively use this knowledge in practice, and the professional and social competence necessary for employment. The curriculum of the full-time engineering programme comprises 2500 teaching hours, while the part-time programme comprises 1500 teaching hours, 210 ECTS credits, evenly distributed at 30 per semester. In addition to lectures, laboratory classes, seminars, and project classes, the hallmark of the programme is a high proportion of field practice and internships. In the part-time course, classes are held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Master studies (second level)
Full-time course – 4 modules (Geoinformatics in forestry, Forestry in urban areas, Forest resources management, Protection of forest ecosystems)
Part-time course – 2 modules (Forest resources management, Protection of forest ecosystems)
In the second degree programme, students acquire and broaden their knowledge in the field of forestry as informed by natural sciences and technical and economic sciences. The study programme enables students to acquire a broad theoretical knowledge and the ability to practically apply it to work in the field of forestry and at institutions managing the natural environment and nature conservation. The study programme is continuously improved in terms of quality, the changing market and natural conditions, and advances in forest science. The 3-term Master’s degree full-time programme includes 950 teaching hours in all modules of study, while the part-time programme comprises 620 teaching hours, resulting in 90 ECTS credits and obtaining the degree of Master of Engineering in Forestry. The programme includes general classes and elective course modules. Students can choose one of four study paths (modules):

  • Forest resources management, aiming to prepare highly qualified graduates with in-depth knowledge and skills in comprehensive forest resource management employing management and silviculture planning as well as biodiversity and fauna and flora gene pool management
  • Protection of forest ecosystems, aiming to prepare highly qualified graduates with a thorough knowledge and skills in forest ecology and the natural science basis of forest management as well as protection and forecasting of the dynamics of ecological processes in forest ecosystems
  • Forestry in urban areas (internationally known as Urban Forestry), aiming to prepare highly qualified graduates with in-depth interdisciplinary knowledge and skills as well as competence necessary to solve complex problems related to the functioning of forests and green areas in urban spaces
  • Geoinformatics in forestry, aiming to prepare highly qualified graduates with in-depth knowledge and skills that enable them to combine theory and practice in geomatics and computer science.

In addition to lectures, laboratory classes, seminars, and project classes, the programme boasts a high proportion of field practice. The learning outcomes and contents of the elective modules are aligned with the contemporary labour market requirements of senior forestry management. The study programme further develops the knowledge and skills acquired in the first-degree programme in forestry or in related fields.

Doctoral studies (third level)
The doctoral study programme can be done as either a full-time course or part-time course and lasts 4 years. They enable you to obtain a doctoral degree in forestry. Persons with the degree of Master of Science or Master of Engineering who are graduates of agricultural Universities and natural science faculties of other Universities, may apply for admission.
